Congratulations to Jing Ke, who recently won the 2013 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Abroad
This scholarship rewards outstanding non-government sponsored students currently studying abroad. Approved by the Ministry of Education of China, the National Scholarship Management Committee set up this "National Outstanding Self-Financed Students Scholarship Project" in 2003, and 907 outstanding students studying aboard were awarded in the past 10 years in total. Each award-winning student receives a prize of $6000.
Jing is a recently graduated Ph.D student in the Biological Systems Engineering program, and is currently a post-doctoral fellow at BBEL. Her work focuses on the understanding of the termite catalytic system for the degradation of softwood, and its application into a pretreatment process for lignocellulosic fuel production.
Mission & Goals
- Educate and train a new generation of leaders in Industrial Biosystems Engineering research, development, and education;
- Advance Industrial Biosystems Engineering sciences and technologies for producing biofuels and biochemcals;
- Contribute to the establishment of a biofuel industry in Washington State and the nation;
- Support the creation and growth of various companies along the value chains of feedstock production, conversion, and product distribution;
- and contribute to the development of a new world bio-economy.
