Microwave Heating Consortium

The general goal of the Microwave Heating Consortium is to develop microwave sterilization technology for the commercial production of high quality, safe and shelf-stable packaged meals. This same technology can also be used in the pasteurization of packaged foods for the retail market.

Consortium activities center around the development of pilot-scale microwave sterilization systems. These systems are used to demonstrate the feasibility of producing high quality shelf-stable food and to collect engineering data crucial for the design of commercial microwave sterilization systems and processes.
