Join Us to Celebrate Historical Contributions by Faculty from WSU Biological Systems Engineering
On Saturday, March 9th, 2024, we will again celebrate our legacy of more than 100 years of agricultural and biological engineering at Washington State University.
The main activity during this celebration will include the release of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering at Washington State University: Volume Two: The Faculty 1910-2023. More than 100 years Committed to Building a Better and More Sustainable Agriculture. By author Dr. Larry G. James
Join us for discussions with former chairs and faculty, honoring BSE Faculty with 20-30 years of service, student interactions during poster presentations, and remembering Dr. Alan Pettibone, Dr. Keith Saxton, and Dr. Day Bassett.
We will celebrate this legacy with former and current staff members, faculties, chairs, students, and alumni.
The focus of Volume Two is the faculty – the heart and soul of the Department. Faculty imagine, craft, implement, lead, and deliver the Department’s teaching, research, and outreach programs. They instruct, mentor, and inspire students, and directly interact and impact the Department’s many clientele. They have, over the Department’s 113-year history, successfully and firmly established WSU’s world-class preeminence in Biological Systems Engineering.
BSE offers PhD and MS degrees in Biological and Agricultural Engineering with four areas of emphasis:
- Agricultural Automation Engineering
- Bioenergy and Bioproducts Engineering
- Food Engineering
- Land, Air, Water Resources, & Environmental Engineering (LAWREE)
From solar drying and pasteurization research in the 1970’s to today’s emphasis on biological waste analysis and treatment, chemical transport through soils, food engineering, bioenergy, bioproducts, and more, our department has a long history of technical environmental stewardship, research, and education.
The researchers and graduate students of this department come from all corners of the United States and the world. Because of this diversity, our students leave here with the global awareness, the advanced education, and the technical expertise to become the key players in the economic, technical, and environmental challenges that face us all.
These are exciting and challenging times for engineering professionals. These can be exciting and challenging times for you!
