Agricultural Automation Engineering
Agricultural Automation Engineering scientists work to provide engineering solutions to crop production problems in agriculture. From seed to table, our researchers collaborate with the growers, harvesters, and food processors plus the industry that supports them to develop new technologies for the economic growth and environmental sustainability of agriculture.
Current primary research activities include the development of wireless sensor networks for real-time yield monitoring and tracking of fruit; remote and contact sensing of soils and plants; automated and targeted pest management systems; vegetable and fruit post harvest handling; smart and/or robotic agricultural machinery; on-machinery crop sensing and control systems; and sensor-based field operation management.

Lav Khot and CAHNRS highlighted during NIFA’s National Washington Day – May 10,2023
USDA | NIFA May 11, 2023
To celebrate National Washington Day on May 10, USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is highlighting the innovative NIFA-funded research conducted by Lav Khot, CAHNRS and Washington State University (WSU).
NIFA’s support allows CAHNRS to bring new ideas to light that improve our food supply, protect our environment and natural resources, and keep Washington agriculture competitive. More than 73% of CAHNRS extramural funding is from federal sources, the most important of which is USDA-NIFA. … » More …
